Connecticut leaders react to targeted attacks on two Minnesota lawmakers

CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — In the wake of Saturday morning’s targeted attacks on two Minnesota state lawmakers and their families, Connecticut leaders are speaking out against the violence.
Former Minnesota speaker of House Melissa Hortman (D), her husband Mark, state Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his wife Yvette were shot in their homes by a man impersonating a law enforcement official, officials said.
Hortman and her husband were killed. Hoffman and his wife were hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
State Sen. Stephen Harding (R) released the following statement on behalf of the Senate Republican Caucus:
Absolutely stunning, disgusting and heartbreaking violence. We condemn these vile acts in the strongest of terms. We pray for the victims and their families. We pray for the people of Minnesota.
State Sen. Stephen Harding (R)
Connecticut Speaker of the House Matt Ritter (D) said he stands in solidarity with Minnesota lawmakers.
I am shocked and saddened by the assasination of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark; and by the shooting of Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. These are unspeakable acts of politically-motivated domestic terrorism. I stand in solidarity with every member of the Minnesota Legislature as I’m sure they have all been knocked off their feet by this heinous, targeted violence against public servants.
Matt Ritter (D), Connecticut Speaker of the House
Gov. Ned Lamont shared his reaction to the attacks on X.
This targeted act of violence is repulsive and absolutely unacceptable. I am praying for Senator Hoffman, Representative Hortman, and their families. Political violence has no place in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.
Gov. Ned Lamont
An FBI investigation is underway as the suspect has yet to be located.
“We must all, in Minnesota and across the country, stand against all forms of political violence,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) said at a press conference Saturday. “Those responsible for this will be held accountable.”
