Pair arrested after armed road rage incident in Stonington

STONINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Two suspects were arrested Thursday after state police say they assaulted a man during a road rage incident on Route 184.

Troopers were dispatched to investigative a report of an assault on Providence New London Turnpike around 10:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, the victim told troopers he was on his way home from Groton when a SUV “break checked” his vehicle multiple times before coming to an almost complete stop.

After the victim passed the SUV, it quickly approached him from behind, following at a close distance while flashing its high beams.

When the victim arrived at his destination, he told troopers the SUV was there too. When the victim got out of his car, a woman got out of the SUV with what appeared to be a firearm in her hand. She reportedly yelled at the victim, accusing him of trying to run them off the road.

The victim said a man also got out and tackled him to the ground. During the struggle, the victim said he was able to get the firearm from the woman and strike the man with it. Then the suspects allegedly both struck the victim in the face and head before returning to their vehicle and leaving.

The victim told troopers they sustained minor injuries to their face and head.

The magazine to the firearm was left with the victim, and troopers said it would be used for a BB gun.

A witness to the incident was able to tell state police the suspect vehicles’ license plate and troopers tracked the suspects to Mystic, where they were taken into custody.
