Bridgeport community reacts to death of mother found shot near daughter


BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — Bridgeport Police Department officers responding to a report of an abandoned child in front of a house on Tuesday night found 24-year-old Evelyn Rayo-Mairena unresponsive in the street just yards away from her daughter.
Rayo-Mairena was taken to a local hospital, where she died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to police. Her 1-year-old daughter was evaluated at a hospital before being reunited with family.
The department said its detectives have strong leads and have received help from the community in its investigation but are still working to establish a motive.
