PD: Groton woman suffers life-threatening injuries after being shot through floor by downstairs neighbor

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Groton woman has life-threatening injuries after being accidentally shot by her downstairs neighbor, according to police.
The incident happened at around 11 p.m. on Sunday. The person who shot the gun, who was identified as 30-year-old Caleb Bean, reported to 911 that he had accidentally discharged his firearm while attempting to cycle the action of his rifle, and that the bullet traveled through the ceiling of his apartment and struck a woman in the unit above his.
When police arrived, two neighbors and the victims boyfriend were attempting to treat the victim using a makeshift tourniquet, according to police. Officers then said they applied two tourniquets to control the bleeding.
The victim was immediately transported to the hospital and put into emergency surgery for her life-threatening injuries. She is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Bean was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace.
He’s being held on a $250,000 bond.
