Joan “Joann” Marie Hegge – Austin Daily Herald

Joan “Joann” Marie Heggeage 91, of Adams, Minnesota, formerly of Rose Creek, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Cedar Court Independent Living in Adams, with her family by her side. Joann was born October 8, 1933, in Dover, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Buchan) Bloom. She attended country school in Eyota, Minnesota from 1st through 3rd grade before relocating to Rose Creek, where she completed her education from 4th grade through 12th grade. Joann received her First Communion and Confirmation at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, where she was also united in marriage to Thomas “Phil” Hegge, on May 12, 1951, officiated by Father William Schmiek.

Joann began her banking career at Rose Creek State Bank, where she worked from 1950 until 1962, returning in 1968. She then joined Farmers State Bank in Lyle, Minnesota, from 1976 until 1979, before starting a long and fulfilling tenure at First National Bank in Austin, Minnesota, which lasted until her retirement in 1991. Alongside her husband, Phil, Joann co-owned and did bookkeeping for Phil’s Standard Station in Rose Creek from 1963 to the 1980s and later co-owned Rose Creek Bar & Lounge from 1987 to 1994.

A devoted member of St. Peter’s Parish, Joann served as a bookkeeper for ten years and was an active member of the St. Peter’s Rosary Society since 1951. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, canning fruits and vegetables, playing cards, reading, and baking.

Survivors include her children, Sandi (Tom) Gilson, Debbie (Kim) Anderson, Linda (Craig) Hessenius, Randy (Lisa) Hegge, Joe Hegge, and Brian (Dana) Hegge; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack Hegge; and sister-in-law, Cathy McClaflin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose Bloom; husband, Phil; granddaughter, Heather (Anderson) Riddles; and brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, Minnesota, with Father Jim Berning officiating. The visitation will take place from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to Mass. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Rose Creek.
