Quitmeyer pitches Post 91 to a close win over Kasson

Although he’s known for the pop in his bat, Austin Post 91’s Haydn Quitmeyer did it with his arm as he pitched his team to a 4-2 win over Kasson in Marcusen Park Tuesday night.

Quitmeyer, a lefty, didn’t allow an earned run in seven innings of work on the hill as he scattered five hits and three walks to earn the victory.

“I’ve been working a lot on pitching,” Quitmeyer said. “I haven’t gotten too many innings in, but I’m feeling real good. My last outing wasn’t amazing, but I feel like everything is clicking now.”

Post 91 (4-5 overall) snapped a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tyler Carter and Rob Lillis produced back-to-back RBI singles to make it a 3-1 game.

Carter had fouled off a bunt before he drove a single to right that put Post 91 up 2-1.

“You’ve just got to stay competitive and put the ball in play in that situation,” he said.

Carter had one of four stolen bases in the game for Post 91, which also took plenty of extra bags on passed balls and wild pitches in the win.

“It’s fun playing high paced baseball and having a coach who trusts you and lets you run on your own sometimes,” Carter said.

Kasson scored an unearned run on a two out throwing error in the top of the first and it added another unearned run on a two out throwing error to get within 3-2 in the top of the fifth.

Quitmeyer said that Post 91 is starting to click at the right time.

“I feel like we’re playing more as a team and we’re knocking guys in when we need to right now,” Quitmeyer said.
