Yale New Haven Hospital nurse sentenced for tampering with Lorazepam

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTHN) — A Southbury man was sentenced on Tuesday to 16 months in federal prison for tampering with and stealing Lorazepam vials at the hospital where he was employed as a nurse.
According to court documents, 39-year-old Sean Falzarano was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital when employees found evidence that he had been tampering with Lorazepam vials.
Documents state that Falzarano took vials containing Lorazepam on Jan. 31, 2022 that were intended for patients. He allegedly removed a portion of the Lorazepam from at least one of the vials and refilled it with an inert solution, then returned it to the secure location where it was available for distribution to patients.
Falzarano was soon confronted, and a search of Falzarano’s backpack revealed vials, crimping tools, saline, vial caps, and syringes.
Falzarano pleaded guilty to the following charges on Dec. 11, 2024:
- Tampering with a consumer product
- Acquiring a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge
He was released on a $50,000 bond and required to report to prison on Oct. 21.
Falzarano’s nursing license is currently suspended.
