Teen charged in Ansonia street takeover where person jumped on police cruiser

ANSONIA, Conn. (WTNH) — Ansonia police say they arrested a 17-year-old for his alleged involvement in a street takeover on Wakelee Avenue in April where a police car was damaged.
He’s facing both juvenile and motor vehicle charges for the April 26 takeover.
On May 15, the juvenile was charged with first-degree riot, first-degree conspiracy to commit riot, and third-degree reckless endangerment. He was held by Juvenile Court.
This Wednesday, he was also charged with reckless driving, racing, operating without a license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating with no insurance.
He was held on a $35,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Derby Superior Court on Friday.
On April 26, officers responded to reports of a street takeover and fireworks being shot off around 12:25 a.m. at the intersection of Franklin Street and Wakelee Avenue.
Between 50 and 100 people and several dozen cars were in the street, according to police.
A group of people allegedly approached the officer’s vehicle and one person jumped on the hood of the car while others surrounded it and threw objects at it.
The officer then backed into a parked vehicle while attempting to back away from the crowd, police said at the time.
