Batman Villain’s DCU Movie Has a Filming Start Date

While Sgt. Rock may no longer be filming this summer, the DCU Clayface movie has been given a production start date.

Clayface is a new DCU movie that will be released in September 2026. Directed by James Watkins, the film’s script comes from The Haunting of Hill House’s Mike Flanagan.

When is the production start date for Clayface?

According to TheWrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, Clayface will officially begin production on October 1, 2025.

That means DC fans might not have to wait too much longer for some casting announcements regarding Clayface, as it has not yet been revealed who will play the titular Batman villain in the film. It is known, however, that it won’t be Alan Tudyk, as James Gunn previously confirmed someone else will play the role despite the fact that Tudyk voiced Clayface in Creature Commandos and the Harley Quinn animated show, the latter of which is set outside the DCU.

“Sources say the film is budgeted at $40 million and is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay,” a description of the plot, via The Hollywood Reporter, reads.

Further details remain under wraps at this time. Whether or not Batman shows up in the film remains to be seen.

Gunn and Peter Safran will both produce Clayface alongside Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris. Watkins’ past filmography includes 2008’s Eden Lake, 2012’s The Woman in Black, 2016’s Bastille Day, and 2024’s Speak No Evil.

Clayface will be released in United States theaters on September 11, 2026, from Warner Bros Pictures. Prior to that, Superman arrives on July 11, 2025, followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow on June 26, 2026.
