Police seek suspect following stabbing incident in Glastonbury
GLASTONBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Authorities are actively investigating a stabbing incident that happened at the Academy Building on Main Street in Glastonbury.
The altercation, which transpired on Sunday morning around 11:36 a.m., happened in the area of a gymnastics event. According to police, the incident unfolded in a section of the building away from the gymnastics event.
The initial investigation reported a disturbance between, leading to a violent altercation resulting in one man being stabbed.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found conscious and alert. However, his injuries prompted immediate medical attention, and was transported to the nearest hospital for further treatment.
Details regarding the extent of the injuries sustained were not disclosed, but police confirmed that the victim had been stabbed twice and was undergoing surgery this afternoon.
While the identities of both the victim and the assailant are unknown at this time, authorities believe the two men know each other. They are from outside of the Glastonbury area but were in the area attending the gymnastics event, according to police.
The suspect remains at large as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to locate and apprehend him.
“We don’t believe that there’s any additional harm that’s going to come to the community, or that anybody else is going to be injured, as a result of this,” said Lieutenant Kevin Szydlo. “The investigators do have a good idea about a suspect that they’re looking to make contact with.”
Nevertheless, they urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Witnesses or individuals with information are encouraged to contact the on-duty Shift Commander at 860-633-8301.
In response to the incident, all scheduled events at the Academy building for the day were canceled.
