Wallingford plow drivers remain busy during storm
WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — As storm cleanup took place across the state, plow drivers were hitting the pavement to make sure businesses are set to open on Wednesday.
John Wooding was plowing snow with his son’s landscaping, D Wooding Landscaping, Tuesday afternoon. Even though the company was fully booked for the day, he said his son was still getting requests.
“The snow is coming down pretty heavy and a little slick, so we’ve been pretty busy steady since 6 o’clock this morning,” Wooding said. “I just got a text from a friend asking us to do a driveway but that’s up to him, he’s the boss.”
Wooding said he will be out cleaning until dinner time. Some business owners like Jeremey Grossman, the manager of Scrubbin Bubbles Car Wash, had to clear their own parking lots.
“Just cleaning up the snow, keeping ahead of it so it doesn’t pile up to high,” he said. “Hopefully doing some business tomorrow.”
He said if he were to hire an outside plow truck driver, it might cost $1,000 for a lot that big.
Not everyone knows a guy with a plow, so many have to shovel. Mark Powell and his son were clearing out their driveway in North Haven.
Powell said the town’s plows came through their street twice already. With most of the neighborhood clear and a better forecast, Powell thinks driving won’t be as risky heading into the evening.
“I listen to Mr. [Joe] Furey, and he said it should be slushy wet underneath so it’ll be like 38 degrees so everything should be melting and your tire should be making it to the pavement,” he said.
